This site is dedicated to the Shake 'n Bake Sergeants and their stories. At Ft. Benning GA in late 1967, the Army created a program to train recruits to become sergeants, the course was called the "Instant NCO Course" and the men who completed the course were referred to as, "Shake 'n Bakes", and "Instant NCO's". They were graduates from the Army's new Noncommissioned Officer Candidate Course (NCOCC). This new program was set up to train young recruits, to become squad leaders in Vietnam.
